Meet the Horses
Chaco
Chaco is a 23 y/o bay tobiano American Paint Horse gelding. His registered name is Leo Scottish Pride. Chaco is owned by Haven Hills riding instructor Maggie Dale, and is frequently used for lessons! He is super sweet, more like a big puppy than a horse, and very smart and mischievous as well!
He is a 3 time Reserve World Champion (2019) and a 2 time State Champion (2017 & 2018). You can follow him on Instagram at @paintofadifferentcolor.
Charlie
Meet Charlie! He is a 25 y/o black Standardbred gelding, and is an ex-trot racer. His registered name is Mesquite Charlie. He was the first horse to live at Haven Hills — we’ve had him since 2015! He’s a sweet old boy who takes care of his rider. He has a big bouncy trot, which helps his riders develop a great seat!
Maggie
Meet Maggie! She’s a 21 y/o blue roan tobiano American Paint Horse. Her registered name is Magnolia Shi Shadow. She’s Sara Krieger's personal horse, but we also use her for lessons! She’s very smart, strong-willed, stubborn, and confident, making her a great teacher. She is very muscular, and is quite the powerhouse!
Melody
Melody is a 10 y/o bay Quarter Horse mare. Her registered name is M Dee Bonanza. She is Bella Krieger’s horse, but she also does a few lessons. She’s a bit of a dork sometimes and can be a bit stubborn, but she’s a sweetheart!
She and Bella won Reserve Grand Champion Junior Ranch Horse at the 2021 Iowa State Fair.
Cass
Meet Cass, short for Cassian! He is grade, meaning he doesn't have papers, so we aren't quite sure what breed he is. He is approximately 24 years old, and is a bay. He is our tallest horse at 16 hands! He is very sweet, laidback, and forgiving. He is also the newest horse at Haven Hills, as he joined the herd in June 2023.
Laredo
Laredo is a sorrel grade Quarter Horse gelding, around 14 y/o. Laredo is Ethan Krieger’s horse! He is very sensitive and sweet, and loves attention! He is very occasionally used for a lesson or two, but due to his sensitive nature he doesn't do lessons very often. You can follow him on Instagram at @littleredranchhorse.
